Happy birthday flower - using Angelina Fibers with embossing powder!

Here's another card from the Crafty Maddness weekend with Debbi.  This time I have mixed angelina fibers with embossing powder.  I haven't seen this technique done anywhere else as yet.  It allows you to add directional heat to your fibers, therefore changing the colour without burning them to a frazzle.  I have used one of my flowers from the CD as my topper.  If I have anything on my web site, there will be a HERE button you can hit to take you directly to the relevant web page.  If you haven't purchased anything from my web site yet, it's important to point out that orders over £10 are P&P free, so bulk up your order to make sure you don't pay P&P (especially if you are spending £9).

Enjoy, get those fibers out...I know you have some lurking in your craft stash.

Step by Step Instructions

From the flower sheet cut out a full blue flower and the smaller flower head.  Also cut out a large leaf and a small leaf.  Then cut out a medium purple head.  I also choose the Happy Birthday sentiment

Take a little of the Angelina fibres and mix the fibres (you don’t want them just sitting in one direction).  Spread the fibres out onto a piece of scrap paper or a heat resistant craft mat. You really only need a pinch of fibres, it goes further than you think. Cover the fibres with a piece of scrap paper or grease proof paper and then iron with a hot iron.  It’s really important to cover the fibres, or they will stick to your iron.  You don’t need to iron for long; just a few seconds should be enough to fuse the fibres together.  You will be able to tell if the fibres aren’t fused as they will still feel fluffy.

Take one of the protective sheets from your double sided adhesive sheet, and stick it to the piece of white card.  Take off the other protective sheet and cover with the sheet of fibres.  Cut off any of the excess fibres that are larger than the card

Now cover the whole piece of card with embossing powder.  This will stick to the rest of the adhesive that isn’t already covered with the fibres. Tap off the excess embossing powder

Now heat with your heating gun.  It’s really important that you don’t over heat, as you can easily burn the fibres or the adhesive.  You can run the heat tool for a few seconds before you apply it to the powder, this will warm your heat tool and make the embossing powder melt quicker.  Normally using a heat tool on the fibres would burn them, but as they are stuck down on the adhesive sheet, it stops them burning as quick.  They also change colour when you apply this direct heat.  You will get texture and a variation in colour
Attach the embossed card to a piece of mirri card, cut slightly bigger.  Apply with strong double sided tape as you will need a strong hold.  Stick this to your card – I put mine to the right of my card

Stick your flower onto the card, to the left of the embossed card, then layer the flowers on top using silicone or glue gel

Mat and layer the Happy Birthday onto white card then 3D onto silver mirri

Finish your card using dots of the white pearl Cosmic Shimmer to the left hand border and then just a few drops on the right of the Happy Birthday
